Do you usually fill in questionnaires - no, we don't either. But just this once, Paul filled in one from Cunard about a cruise we'd had. And lo and behold, he won a prize of lunch for 4 on the Queen Mary 2. So off we trotted to Southampton with some friends from nearby Poole, on one of the hottest days of the year, for a guided tour and a full lunch. And boy, after the tour, were we ready for the lunch!

Lunch was excellent - jumbo prawns and diced melon; meltingly tender chateaubriand; chocolate souffle with grand marnier sauce. All washed down by Pinot Grigio.

The ship looked lovely - not tacky at all, despite what we'd heard. The cabins are gorgeous, and most have balconies. The library is huge, there's a planetarium, etc etc. Can I have my ten pounds now please?

As she mainly does transatlantic trips in summer, and fly cruises in the Caribbean in the winter, we haven't been on her yet. But we are eyeing a trip involving 5 nights in New York and Boston, including 4th July celebrations - maybe in 2008. We'll see.
