In February 2015 we went to the Chelsea Physic Garden for one of their 'Snowdrop days'. They had every variety imaginable on display, as well as hanging displays of snowdrops, a snowdrop trail, and a tent selling them. Plus there's a great cafe, and lots of interesting glasshouses, including a fern house, tropical house, and Atlantic Isles house (Madeira, Canaries), all of which we enjoyed. On a cold, clear day the tropical house was especially welcome. And yes, the exit is through the gift shop...

The Chelsea Physic Garden was founded in 1673 by the Worshipful company of apothecaries, for the study of the medicinal properties of plants, and that remains it's focus today. With four acres, set in the heart of the expensive district of Chelsea it is a miracle it has survived intact, and is a wonderful haven in the heart of London. It is walking distance from our flat, so we have joined as members and can visit as often as we like for free. It's our London garden!
